Disability Services

Disability Services is the designated office at Mount Holyoke College that provides accommodations and support services to students with documented disabilities. It is recommended to begin the process several weeks before the start of the semester to ensure your accommodations are in place before you begin classes.

Applying
You will need to use your official Mount Holyoke email address to access the my.mtholyoke portal. The Disability Services Application is under the Self-Service Menu. Go to “Students”, then “Requests & Applications”.

Documentation
In order to provide you with accommodations, we need appropriate documentation of your disability from a licensed provider/clinician. For more information about our documentation requirements, please visit the Documentation Standards Section of our website. Documentation may be faxed, emailed, or mailed. We will verify documentation not given directly by a provider to Disability Services by contacting the associated office and/or provider.

Intake Appointment
After we have received your application and documentation, we will email you at your official Mount Holyoke email address to schedule an intake appointment. Appointments are available in person, by phone, or by video conference.

Tuition & Billing

No paper bills will be sent. An email will be sent to your Mount Holyoke email account when a bill has been posted and is ready to be viewed online. Payment for all charges is typically due within 30 days. Information on eBills and setting up authorized users can be found at https://www.mtholyoke.edu/directory/departments-offices-centers/student-financial-services/billing-and-payments

The tuition billing schedule can be found at: https://www.mtholyoke.edu/admission/graduate/tuition-fees-aid

If you have questions regarding billing or financial assistance, please contact Student Financial Services at 413-538-2291. Students are charged per credit based on the number of credits they are registered for during the term. If you add/drop a course, your bill will be changed accordingly; the final amounts of the bill will be reconciled at the end of the drop/add period. Please note that your financial aid and scholarship(s) may also be adjusted as a result of a change in the number of credits for which you are registered.

If you plan to seek financial assistance, please be sure to complete a FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid, https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa) prior to contacting Student Financial Services.

More detailed information regarding financial policies can be found on the Professional and Graduate Education website or the Student Financial Services website.

Mount Holyoke College Annual Events & Traditions

Convocation: Convocation, held on the day before the start of fall classes, marks the official start to the school year and, as such, includes remarks from the chair or vice-chair of the Board of Trustees, the president of the College, a faculty member, a staff representative and the president of the Student Government Association.

Mountain Day: Founder Mary Lyon — a firm believer in the need for students to get exercise and fresh air — instituted the spontaneous day off in spring 1838, just a few months after the doors first opened. With few exceptions, Mount Holyoke has celebrated Mountain Day every year since except now it is held on a surprise day in the fall.  On-campus classes are canceled until 4pm.

Pangy Day: The story behind Pangynaskeia Day, which is held on the last Friday of classes in the spring semester, is nearly as long as its name. It is a celebration of spring and the "world of women."

Laurel Parade: Held the Saturday before Commencement, the Laurel Parade marks the transition from MHC student to alum and is one of the College’s most moving rituals. It begins with a parade through campus and ends with Mary Lyon's grave being wreathed in laurel while the students and alum sing "Bread and Roses."

Commencement: The ceremony in the Kendall Field House is both formal — with faculty and deans wearing their elaborate academic robes depicting their degrees — and festive, with the graduates often festooned with objects and clothing in their class color and personalized mortar boards, as well as their simple black gowns.

Class color & symbol: Each class proudly displays their class color at class-related activities such as Convocation. The graduate programs have adopted the teal owl as our mascot.
